SQUIRTS  --  HOME Tournament  January 24, 2009

11/12/07

In their season opening game this past Saturday, the Tupper Lake Squirts hosted Lake Placid in a back and forth battle that ended in a 3-3 tie.   The first period started off with a Lake Placid goal and ended with Tupper on the boards with one of their own, knocked in by Thomas Sexton, assisted by Tim Fuller.

Again in the second period,  Lake Placid would score one, and  Tupper would come back shortly after with their second goal, an unassisted shot by Houston Hoover.

The battle to break the tie was on in the third period as Lake Placid again took the lead with their third goal.   The last goal of the game came from Elliott Fletcher who scored with less three minutes on the clock to tie the game.  In the net Garrett Kopp had a busy game, blocking 32 shots from Lake Placid.  The team looked great and Squirt newcomers Trace Callaghan, Stuart Burnett, Darrell Mecklenburg, and Chase Vaillancourt played a strong game.

On Sunday, the Squirts traveled to Ogdensburg to face a tough team in their first League game of the season.   The first period proved to be exciting, ending scoreless on either side.

The second period would have Ogdensburg putting 3 shots in the net as Tupper tried to get on the boards.   Eager to avoid a shut out Tupper worked hard in the third period.  Chase Bedore made Tupper’s first goal unassisted.   Following up, came the second shot by Elliott Fletcher assisted by Trace Callaghan.  Then, with 1 second on the clock Darryll Mecklenburg scored to bring Tupper their third goal.   Although it wouldn’t be enough to get past Ogdensburg’s 5 goals, it was a well played game.   Verteran’s to the squad, Josh Fowler, Chase Bedore, Houston Hoover, Tom Sexton, Nathan Yamrick, Tim Fuller, Cody Brickey, Brandon Picerno, Elliott Fletcher, Hayden Poirier and Garrett Kopp, played like they never missed beat from last season.

The team is coached by Jon Kopp, Mark Yamrick and Sonny Poirier.
